Malcolm Gladwell theorized that “greatness” requires 10,000 hours of practical training. A teenage Sayce had easily surpassed this threshold when his hometown hero, legendary guitarist and multi-platinum artist Jeff Healey, caught Sayce playing a ferocious set in downtown Toronto. Within a year, Sayce was touring internationally with Jeff Healey’s band and performing at the world’s most prestigious festivals. Since that time, Sayce has put in multiples of that 10,000 hours, recording and touring for four years with musical icon Melissa Etheridge, then launching a solo career and establishing a rabid fan base in Europe and beyond, opening shows for the likes of ZZ Top and Deep Purple. Sayce is a rare artist, a combination of outstanding songwriter, unparalleled guitarist, soulful singer, and electrifying performer." - https://www.philipsayce.com/about "Philip is looking forward to performing the new songs on his upcoming tours. “We’ve already been performing a few of the new tracks live and they feel great,” says Philip. “Oh! Check-in is from 3:00 p.m., check-out by 12:00 p.m. at the latest! Please understand that it may take some time until you receive feedback. We first have to wait and see how many rooms the bands need on each concert day before we can reserve a room for you. We hope to welcome you soon, Your Gellrich family PS: We would like to point out that in very rare cases it may happen that a band performing at the Blues Garage requires more rooms than were previously booked by their agency. Guarajuba, Bahia, Brazil - Relaxing Walking Tour by the Beach [4k]

#walkingtour #relaxing #beach "Guarajuba is becoming one of the most popular beaches on the north coast of Bahia, especially for families seeking a quiet place to spend the holidays. The village has vacation homes in condominiums, simple pousadas (inns) and luxury resorts. Surrounding the shoreline, there are squares and tree-lined streets, ideal for biking, jogging and walking. In the area of the beaches that is protected by reefs, you can make excellent and relaxing dives, as in the open sea, the formation of perfect waves, has drawn the attention of surfers from all over Brazil. It is located in the homonymous neighborhood of Guarajuba, belonging to the district of Monte Gordo, Camaçari, about 42 kilometers from Salvador via the BA-099 highway (popularly known as Linha Verde, or Estrada do Coco).[1] The beach is today[2] one of the most frequented on the north coast of Bahia, with many stalls selling drinks and food, traditional restaurants serving Bahian cuisine, and high-end hotels, such as Vila Galé Marés.[3] The region is home to the Lagoas de Guarajuba Environmental Protection Area,[4] which overlaps with another in some areas; the APA Litoral Norte da Bahia. In addition, the beach was awarded Blue Flag certification, an international certification designed to encourage authorities and beach managers to seek to maintain a high standard in the quality of their preservation and care for these areas.[5]" - https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praia_de_Guarajuba

The Gray Organ, built between 1815 and 1820. Berlin, Germany [4k]

The Gray Organ, built between 1815 and 1820. Berlin, Germany [4k]

"An English master instrument of the early 19th century

For lovers of historical organs, the Berlin Musical Instrument Museum offers a special attraction: a three-manual slider chest organ with a return positive from the famous London organ building company Gray. It was built between 1815 and 1820 - probably by John Gray - for a church in Bathampton near Bath in Somerset. The organ has 24 registers, the disposition consists of main, choir and swell, each with a range of C-f''', plus a subsequently expanded pedal (C-f'), couplings and playing aids. The organ was expertly restored by the E. F. Walcker company and revoiced in a historical manner, as was the neo-Gothic case, using the well-preserved Rückpositiv as a model.

With the soft sound of its wide-scaled pipes, the Gray organ is entirely in the Baroque tradition that characterizes organ building in conservative England in the early 19th century." - https://www.simpk.de/museum/sammlung/hoehe points-der -exhibition.html#c24530

"2 manuals, 27 ranks, 24 registers

Built 1815-1820 for St. Mary's Church in Bathwick (GB) by William & John Gray (GB, London)

1879 Sale of the organs to the Congregational Church in Salisbury (GB) - with the addition of a pedal by Vowles (GB, Bristol)

1910 disposition changes by W.J. Burton (UK, Winchester)

1960 disposition changes

1977 The organ was dismantled, stored in Chichester and sold to the Musical Instrument Museum

Restored in 1984 by E.F. Walcker & Cie. (D, Ludwigsburg)

Game of Thrones Theme played on a Regal (Zungenpfeifen Orgel) from 1680, Berlin, Germany

#organ #gameofthrones #berlin

"The musical instrument known as the regal or regalle (from Middle French régale[1]) is a small portable organ, furnished with beating reeds and having two bellows.[2] The instrument enjoyed its greatest popularity during the Renaissance.

The name "regal" was also sometimes given to the reed stops of a pipe organ, and more especially to the vox humana stop.

 History
The sound of the regal is produced by brass reeds held in resonators.[2] The length of the vibrating portion of the reed determines its pitch and is regulated by means of a wire passing through the socket, the other end pressing on the reed at the proper distance.

The resonators in the regal are not intended to reinforce the vibrations of the beating reed or of its overtones (as in the reed pipes of the organ), but merely to form an attachment to keep the reed in place without interfering with its function.

A common compass was C/E--c′′′ (four octaves, with a short octave in the bass), though this was by no means standardized. Most regals were placed on a table to be played, and required two people—one to play the instrument, and another to pump the bellows.

Michael Praetorius (1618) mentions a larger regal used in the court orchestras of some of the German princes, more like a positive organ, containing reeds at 4′, 8′, and even sometimes 16′ pitch, and having two bellows behind the case. These regals were used not only at banquets but often in place of positive organs in churches.

A very small regal, sometimes called a Bible regal because it could be separated into sections and folded up like a book, was also mentioned by the same writer, who stated that these little instruments had an unpleasantly harsh tone due to their tiny resonators, which were not quite an inch long. He states that they were first made in Nuremberg and Augsburg.

In England and France, the word "regal" was sometimes applied to reed stops on the organ; Mersenne (1636) states that the word was applied at that time to the vox humana stop.[2] According to Praetorius, the reed stops of pipe organs required constant tuning; he emphasized the fact that the pitch of the stop fell in summer and rose in winter.

The pitch of the other stops rose in summer and fell in winter. Because of civil wars and the ravages of time, very few antique regals survive. They were often mentioned in wills and inventories, such as the list of Henry VIII's musical instruments made after his death by Sir Philip Wilder (British Library Harley MS 1415, fol. 200 seq.), in which no fewer than thirteen pairs of single and five pairs of double regals are mentioned (although at that period, "pair" referred to a single instrument).

Claudio Monteverdi scored for the regals in his operas, and the instrument was described and illustrated by Sebastian Virdung in 1511, Martin Agricola in 1528, and Othmar Luscinius in 1536. In England, as late as the reign of George III, there was the appointment of tuner of the regals to the Chapel Royal. Drawings of the reeds of regals and other reed pipes, as well as of the instrument itself, are given by Praetorius (pl. iv., xxxviii.).

The regal may be seen as the ancestor of the harmonium, the reed organ, and the various varieties of "squeezebox" such as the accordion, the concertina, and the Bandoneón." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regal_(instrument) Museum of Musical Instruments, Berlin, Germany
